Dead and Gone?

Well, its not often that I get to brag and boast about how much I love the Honda brand, but today GM announced a cut of 21,000 jobs (distressing, isn't it) and the phasing out the Pontiac brand. GM has been a "trusted" name in the auto-industry for 80 something years and is the backbone of the U.S. bailout for American Car Manufacturers. Long story short, come this June 2009 we'll find out if GM will be a subsidiary of the U.S. Government; GM will be offering 225 shares of stock for every $1000 owed to the government and by the end of this summer the number will roughly be a staggering $27 Billion in debt.

So, what are we to think when our government makes a decision treading the waters of communism. Is it worth the tax toll to let the our government play economist with our domestic market, artificially stimulating supply and demand to control the auto industry? Or maybe Uncle Sam has a trick up his sleeve and his true intentions are to slowly phase out the dying U.S. Auto Market by only leaving a handful of key players (see the Honda/Toyota model) for the long haul. We'll find out soon enough, I just hope for the latter.
